Privacy Policy

You have accessed a website (the Website) of Charity Central and the Legal Resource Centre of Alberta Ltd. (LRC).

At Charity Central and the LRC the security and integrity of our users’ personal information is important to us. We take every reasonable measure necessary to protect your privacy.

Charity Central and the LRC's privacy practices are in accordance with the applicable provincial law, the Alberta Protection of Information and Privacy Act (PIPA).

Charity Central and the LRC have in place privacy and security practices to safeguard our users’ personal information. These practices are reviewed, and if necessary revised, on a regular basis. "Personal information" is information about an identifiable individual that may include such information as your name, e-mail address, phone number, credit card information and other financial information.

Charity Central and the LRC capture information about website users. For example, Charity Central and the LRC server logs http requests (also known as “sending cookies”). This captures computer information, navigation and click-stream data such as the originating IP address of your computer. We do this only for statistical purposes. We do not attempt to identify the individual using the computer. We would only obtain specific personal information from you (such as your name, phone number or email address) if you supply it by sending us an email. Visitors’ personal information will not be disclosed to anyone except Charity Central and LRC staff who might need the information to respond to a request made by you. If you send a request, you will be deemed to have given permission for the request to be addressed by someone at Charity Central or the LRC.

Aggregate data is used in site administration, planning and security. We use the data to ensure that our site is robust enough to handle the traffic and to understand which of our resource pathways are most used.

Charity Central and the LRC do not use or disclose personal information for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. Charity Central and the LRC retain personal information only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes. Charity Central and the LRC inform users of the existence, use and disclosure of their personal information upon request, and gives them access to their information.

All links to other sites are reviewed according to a set of standards. However, once the user follows a link and leaves our site, we cannot guarantee the quality of other links from the new site or the privacy and security of these sites.

Our sites use industry-standard security measures to protect data against loss, misuse and interception by third parties. Our security policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary. However, Charity Central and the LRC assume no liability for interception, alteration or misuse of information transmitted over the Internet.

The Website may make forums, message boards, message threads and/or news groups available to its subscribers and visitors. Generally speaking, whenever you disclose personal information online there is a risk that the information may be intercepted, collected and used. That goes for information disclosed on message boards, in chat areas - or even in e-mail. Charity Central and the LRC are not responsible if that information is intercepted. You transmit information to anyone at your own risk.  Also please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information, and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.
